Developing a Positive Attitude Can Positively Impact Your life
It can be hard when life takes a turn that you’re not in favor of. You might have tried different ways to get back on track, but haven’t found anything that really works.
Does this sound familiar?
If you’ve been dealt a less than ideal hand in life, you probably know that having a perfect life isn’t always easy to achieve. But there’s more to a fulfilling life than luck and circumstances, and it really comes down to how we play our cards.
As the saying goes, “Life is 1% what happens to you and 99% how you deal with it.”
Here at Midlife Coacher, we understand that the way you deal with life’s situations determines what your life is like.
Are you still working towards finding a solution?
Your attitude determines the outcome of events that will happen to you. You may be wondering what you should do when faced with negative events, but the truth is that your emotions are all up to you.
Let’s take a look at an example and see how changing your attitude can change the situation:
The Traffic Scenario
Let’s say you’re driving when you’re about to approach a red light and want to avoid stopping. You accelerate and end up running through the amber when it turns red; then, a police officer stops you and asks for your license and registration.
You were angry and annoyed because of your tardiness at your meeting at the office. Your anger flared up and you shoved the police officer. As a result, you were slapped with another ticket for assaulting an officer on-site.
Let’s say you had a different attitude about it. How would that have affected the outcome?
- Had you left home a little earlier, you would have had more time and avoided moving through the light
- If you had stopped at the amber light, you would have experienced a two-minute delay instead of the 20-minute delay with the police officer.
- What you really should have done was to take responsibility for the offense and tell the officer. You would have gotten a warning, rather than a ticket.
- Containing your anger would have prevented the second offense.
- You’re now down at least $200, which you were planning to use for your credit card payments. A more positive attitude could have saved you money and enabled you to follow through on your credit card payment plan.
When things get tough, it’s more of a mindset that brings you back around. As such, when things get chaotic and then you’re faced with a challenging situation, it’s really just the mentality that gets the ball rolling.
Instinctively, it is hard to respond equally to different tones given to any situation.
When we see the challenges we face in life as opportunities for growth and progress rather than setbacks and failures, we will feel accomplished and empowered by our own success.
When you remember that you can choose your reaction, you’ll have more power in determining the outcome of a situation!
If your ultimate goal in life is to be truly happy, don’t forget that you have control over most outcomes. When you stop for a few minutes and realize that only you can determine how happy you feel, your entire mindset will change.
